It is not often that I will pick up a book that is considered a “parenting” book, especially not one that is titled “Parenting,” because most of them are fairly repetitive in what they tell you about parenthood. Plus, every. single. child is so different…how can anyone tell me what is right or wrong for me or my child. I have even taken child development classes (because the obvious thing to do after getting your business degree is to go back to school to get an early childhood education degree :p ), and those actually were super helpful in understanding my girls and their development more.

But this book is a little different. It takes a different point of view. You notice it right away from the cover. “Gospel principles” is not something you generally read about in any of the booklets about newborns as your prepare for the arrival of your baby. But it all makes so much sense, doesn’t it? Our children are not our own. What a precious gift we have been given to raise these little ones, yet we can sometimes feel so ill-equipped, at least I do…most days! I love how Paul Tripp brings it back to the Bible in Parenting. Yes, those daily tasks of being a mom or dad to our child/ren still remain. Yes, there are dirty diapers, fussiness, and tantrums…and eyes rolled (both theirs and yours!), angry words exchanged, and curfews broken. But we sometimes forget about grace. This changes how we live our lives as parents…or at least it should.

  1. I was just thinking its time to read a parenting book/ take a refresher course if some sort. This book looks perfect! Thanks for the review & recommendation!

  2. I totally had this long sharing but it got deleted 😦

Thank you Joyce for your sharing. I’ve been humbly reminded this year of my identity in Christ through many changes …and as I was encouraged in Ephesians with the reminder of us being fellow heirs in Christ, I am thankful that regardless of this momentary life and all that is in it, nothing changes our eternal purpose to be called heirs in Gods family. Praying for us as we navigate this parental journey that is filled with ever changing seasons, that we would instill in ourselves and our children the unchanging truths of His purposes for us, rooted in Christ Himself. Thanks Joyce!
