Melody (age 9)
What the book is about: This book is about Rooney. Rooney doesn’t have the courage to talk to her coach about Amanda and how she acts as if she is the only one on her team and also she cannot find a correct time to talk to her coach about it. Mari, her personal angel, and Rooney take a trip to Esther’s story and find out how you can have the courage and the patience to talk to someone at the right time.
Like: I like how it talks in detail of how the story happened, like how Mordecai tore his robes because I did not know some of these facts until I read the book.
Dislike: I don’t like that they can’t go outside of the window.
What I learned: I learned that sometimes you have to have patience and wait for God to guide you and tell you what the right time is to do some things.
Recommend: I would recommend this book to kids about ages 6-10.
Emily (age 7)
What the book is about: The book is about Rooney and her being afraid to tell her coach about a not-so-nice girl on her soccer team. Her angel takes her to the time of Esther and shows her what Esther does. She shows her that Esther has patience and she prays.
Like: I like the part about Esther’s time when Mordecai tells her she should save her land. I like learning about Bible stories.
Dislike: I like all of it.
What I learned: To be patient when I tell people about stuff.
Notes from Melody and Emily’s mom:
This is the second book in a series called Bible Belles’ The Adventures of Rooney Cruz. It is about a girl named Rooney and her angel Mari. In this particular book, when Rooney (and her teammates) have an issue with another teammate who is not-so-nice, she doesn’t know what to do. Mari shows her the story of a Bible Belle – Esther. Rooney finds out how Esther had to have patience to pray and listen to God. I love when we are able to connect our real everyday life to the lives of the people of Bible times. There are great heroes who learn lessons and have values just like our girls need to learn and have. When faced with an issue, it is easy to give in to our own desires to fix things, but our way may not always be the best. I’m thankful for books and resources like Bible Belles to help our children learn to look to the Lord for guidance.
I also love that this book is available in Spanish! Check it out in any of the links in this post.
