Melody (age 8)
What the book is about: It’s about the plans God has for you.
Like: It tells you to do things God has planned for you in your life.
Dislike: Nothing.
Recommend: Kids

Emily (age 6)
What the book is about: It’s about God. It tells you about when you grow up.
Like: You’ll be strong…but not like God…He is really powerful.
Dislike: I didn’t like the long passages.
Recommend: I recommend it to my friends Bella and Becca.

Notes from Melody and Emily’s mom:
The devotional is 90 days. It is illustrated and colorful with creative drawings. This devotional gets kids thinking about the plans God has for them. There are a few long pages, but each day’s devotion is short and sweet. It points to the future and faith. It reminds kids that God has a plan and purpose for each one of us. While we have other devotionals that are “meatier” and dig a bit deeper into the Word, this one is perfect for us to end our day. There are no days listed, so you are free to read as many or as few pages as you like and reflect on the thoughts on God’s plan for us or connects us to a story of God’s plans for one of the people in the Bible. The journal has prompts to guide kids in their thinking of what their talents may be. We are all different, but we can work together to better the world around us. You know I love a good journal. (There is also a picture book for younger kids.)

About Vanessa Brantley-Newton (illustrator)
Vanessa Brantley-Newton is a self-taught illustrator, doll maker, and crafter. Her passion for children’s books began when she came across The Snowy Day by Ezra Jack Keats as a child in the 1960s. Growing up in a musical family who love to sing, Vanessa’s illustrations are as fun and whimsical as a beautiful melody. Vanessa currently makes her nest in Charlotte, NC with her husband of 20 years, their daughter, and a very rambunctious cat named Stripes.

  1. Howdy! My plans for this year include decluttering and keeping the amount of stuff we bring into this house at a minimum. 🙂

  2. I successfully did two small things nearly every day for the first 21 days in the year. I sort of feel like maybe I can now say they are habits! I started a new little thing on the 22nd. I’m going to keep on habit stacking. Picking small things to help add up to bigger change, etc.

One of the ones I want to add is getting back in the habit of reading the Bible and/or a devotional book to my kids at either breakfast or dinner every day. We did it when they were younger but with school routine, I got out of this habit.

    • That’s great, Kari! Building habits are awesome because they lead to other awesome things! It’s like a domino effect. Keep it up! Thanks for entering. We will have lots more to come this year! 🙂 – Joyce
