Monterey: Crystal Fish

We originally wanted to go to Hula’s Island Grill for a Hawaiian dinner, but there was a 45-minute wait.  So we walked down the street (Lighthouse Ave.) and found Crystal Fish.  It was highly rated on Yelp and also on other review sites.  We decided to try it out and good thing we did as there were some amazing finds.

An exclusive for kids is the Fun Chop.  Each of the girls got one when we were seated.  This innovative gadget is a plastic chopstick holder.  You place the plastic, rubbery gadget over each chopstick and it allows kids to correctly hold chopsticks and close them to grasp food.  We recommend all Japanese restaurants include this kid-friendly item.

We ordered green tea since it was chilly outside and it came in a red teapot with a strainer on top (much like the picture shown above).  The strainer held the green tea leaves so it didn’t mix in with the hot water.  Drinking tea leaves is no fun.  Another good idea.

The Miso soup was good and stayed HOT for a long while.

I ordered Chirashi and the wide variety of sashimi was extremely fresh coming in a stuffed bento box.

Joyce ordered a California Roll and a Sweet Potato Roll, which was absolutely AMAZING.  The girls loved it.  I wish they had this roll at every Japanese restaurant.

The girls also ordered their usual Inari (tofu skin pocket stuffed with sushi rice), which is not pictured.

Supposedly, Crystal Fish is the best sushi joint in the Monterey area.  I’m starting to agree with that statement.  We have to go back if ever we are in the area again.
