Specialty’s is a chain cafe/bakery with multiple locations throughout the Bay Area. For some strange reason, most places where I’ve worked before had Specialty’s close by. I was introduced to Specialty’s at Genentech when I was started out as an admin and had to help order food for meetings. I quickly learned the menu, what people liked, what to order, and what not to order.
Specialty’s is known for its cookies and baked goods; hence, the bakery part of its name. They even have a Cookie Radar to advertise which of its locations has just finished baking a fresh batch of cookies. I’ll sometimes bring home a half-dozen cookies as a treat for the girls. It’s also known for their sandwiches; hence, the cafe part of its name. The two particular ones that were selected most when I was taking orders was The Chairman (Turkey/Swiss/Avocado) and the now-discontinued Heifer (ginormous amount of Roast Beef inside cheese bread with horseradish easily enough for 2 people).
But what I love Specialty’s for the most is……..the Wild Blueberry Coffee Cake. It’s absolutely scrumptious breakfast food! Cinnamon streusel, icing, and wild blueberries on top of a fluffy coffee cake makes a great way to start the day for a sweet tooth like me. They also have coffee cake in flavors that vary depending on what store you frequent like cranberry, apple, and peach on top, etc.
