Within the past couple of weeks, JapaCurry secured a lunch spot location a block from my workplace. It’s the same one-block distance to the Curry Up Now food truck, but just down the other block (Pine instead of Bush). They’re scheduled to be there Mondays and Fridays.
There are now two Japanese curry food joints in my area with the other one being Muracci’s Japanese Curry and Grill (a brick and mortar type of restaurant) on Kearny.
I ordered the #1 – Pork Curry. It was crispy and tender with all-breast meat Tonkatsu with curry that isn’t spicy initially but gets spicier as you eat more of it. The spiciness basically creeps up on you. This dish came with a small souffle cup of pickled radish and a generous portion of rice under the big slab of pre-cut Tonkatsu.
A co-worker shared with me some of the Sweet Potato Croquette. It was crispy on the outside with sweet potato goodness on the inside. Yum! I also dipped it in extra curry sauce and it was tasty good.
We got to the truck around 11:45am and there were a couple of people in front of us. However, after we received our food there were 15 or more people lined up in the queue. I guess we just beat the lunch crowd.
Update: JapaCurry added some items to their menu. I tried the new Nameraka (“smooth”) Pudding. Yummy Japanese Vanilla Flan!
JapaCurry also offers sides like Green Salad, Macaroni Salad, Potato Salad, and yummy Seaweed Salad.
