There are a few places that serve Thai food out here in the East Bay and especially out here in Castro Valley. In fact, there are only (count ’em) three Thai restaurants in Castro Valley.
Top Thai was recommended to us by the youth pastor’s family at our church. One of the dishes they order is Mun Tod (deep fried sweet potato in coconut batter with plum sauce and ground peanuts). It’s a tasty big/chunky version of sweet potato fries…much like the ones we usually order from Ice Creamery. Yum!
Basil Eggplant is also a very flavorful dish (sauteed eggplant with garlic chili and sweet basil) with its crispy basil.
Pad See Ew is the Thai name for the traditional Chinese dish called Gong Chow Ngau Ho. English Translation: Beef Chow Fun. This would be wide rice noodles with beef, carrots, broccoli, pork, egg, and sweet black bean sauce.
Pineapple Fried Rice is pretty good here, although they throw in small amounts of shrimp, squid, scallops, and mussels. Technically, this should be called Pineapple Seafood Fried Rice.
Their Pad Thai is okay and can be ordered with shrimp or chicken.
Top Thai offers free delivery within Castro Valley as do most Castro Valley restaurants. This is quite convenient for us if we can’t figure (or have time) what to eat or cook.
