Hotel Rwanda

We have heard raving reviews for Hotel Rwanda when it first came out (2005). We finally got a chance to check it out from the library. Maybe it was because we stopped halfway through or just because we didn’t watch it at the theater, but it was simply “okay” to us. The cast was very believable in their roles. This movie is based on the true story of a hotel manager named Paul Rusesabagina (played by Don Cheadle). During a civil war, the Hutu militia were attacking the minority Tutsi people. Many died, but this one man made a difference when he stood up for the Tutsi and made a safe haven for them at the hotel (for awhile). The Rwandan genocide happened in 1994, but we don’t recall it being in the news. Maybe we need to get caught up on current events as they happen.
